ex George Hotel60 High Street, Silsoe, Bedford, Bedfordshire MK45 4EP Decades ago, staff at the George started to hear footsteps outside the bedrooms and on the stairs, which were empty at the time. Then thumps and moans were heard coming from empty rooms. People also saw a young lady dressed in grey. An attempted to exorcise the activity failed. It is not known if these phenomena still occur now the building has been converted to private housing. It is thought that the phantom might be Elizabeth de Grey, a younger daughter of the Earl or Duke. She and a coachman were very much in love but fearing a backlash from their romance, they continued their liaisons in secret at the George. The lovers were found out and they decide to flee, pursued by Elizabeth's father and his men. In their flight, the coach carrying Elizabeth and her lover went off the road and careened into a lake, drowning them. |
