Kimbolton SchoolKimbolton, Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire PE28 0EA 01480 860281/01480 860505 When this was known as Kimbolton Castle, Catherine of Aragon spent the end of her life here as a virtual prisoner. Although the castle has long since gone, there are still fragments of the old tudor building inside the modern school building. Although her phantom has not been seen for some time, in the past, her "head and shoulders" have been seen gliding across the floor, probably due to a change in floor levels since her time. Another phantom is said to be connected to the daughter of Sir John Popham. It is said that in a fit of rage, Popham threw the girl from window where she died from the fall. A paving stone in the courtyard is said to glow either red or blue on the anniversary of her death - but no-one knows what the date is. Popham's phantom has also been seen in the ground, where he is described as looking "angry." Researcher Nat Doig, host of Weird in the Wade, tells us that a ghostly lady in tudor clothing (said to be Catherine) is seen in the Queen's Chambers, now the head teacher's offices. The ghost floats across two floors, the ceiling cutting the body in two. The story is "well known" and "frequently reported." Link: Weird in the Wade |
