Dudley CastleCastle Hill, Dudley, West Midlands DY1 4QF 01384 215313 A "Grey Lady" is said to haunt the castle; she may be a woman who hung herself from the battlements and her body was left hanging for hours afterwards, or she may be Dorothy Beaumont. The hanging is said to be re-enacted every Hallowe'en. The ghosts of an elderly couple arm in arm have been seen in the castle where they walk up to the gatehouse and then disappear, and also in the zoo grounds; rather strangely, they acknowledge the living. A black monk is also seen too. The sound of horses, and items being moved in the museum shop have also been reported amongst many other events too, including a lodge known as 'The Round House' where a children's entertainer was disturbed by misty shapes and knockings on his door in the night. A 1989 document states that, "Numerous odd sounds of voices and the clash of steel have also been heard and occasionally a peculiar sudden gust of wind experienced." Link: Cromwelliana |
