The Kings Head

A cavalier haunts this building (where he has been seen to raise a pewter mug and take a drink) and the pavement outside. The story is that an altercation took place during the Civil War and the body of a murdered Cavalier was hidden in the cellar. His wounds are still visible to witness, it is said. Also detected is a smell of wood burning and the sighting of a lady in ragged clothes, who may be a woman burned to death here many years ago. She is sometimes described as a young girl who appears in the function room. Also in the cellar is the shadowy form of a former landlord, nicknamed called George - this is where he died, by hanging himself. He is seen late at night, or early in the morning. At the afore mentioned function room, a member of staff heard a noise and went to investigate, and when he got to the room, he heard a knock from inside, but there was no-one there. In addition, glasses "shoot off" the bar, empty bottles have been found in the Conservatory, and footsteps have also been heard.
