The Old Rectory

The spectral history of this building seems to have started in 1797 when the old rector died after he was lured into participating into several vices by villagers and developed an addiction to alcohol. His phantom was supposedly seen twice and thereafter the manifestations were auditory; mainly knocking sounds but there were groanings, footsteps, the sound of a door being ripped off its hinges, a noise akin to a ball smashing through the roof and rebounding into the distance; and many others. By 1841 the ghost had aquired the power of speech, and then newspapers and books went silent. There is a story that in the 1920s a ghost was seen and there are rumours of strange occurrences in the 1990s when the building was a care home. The current owners state that all is quiet in the old rectory.
