Stiffkey Red Lion

About 2010, a couple stopping in the attic room came down to breakfast asking if the hotel had a ghost! It transpired that during the night the lady was pulled out of bed, and the following night the same thing happened to her partner. Before then, a previous landlord named Matthew Rees would find his customary stool in the kitchen (which led to the attic) moved when he took his evening meal. There have been a succession of small incidents since then. Candles have been found burning first thing in the morning, but these had only just been lit as there was no residue of melted wax. Glasses would fly off the shelves but sometimes would only bounce upon impact with the ground, rather than shatter. There would also be an occasional smell of burning; a recent occurrences was traced it to a loudspeaker but no sooner had the source been identified, the smell vanished and there was no trace of charring. The incidents in the hotel are attributed to "Albert." During a session with ghost hunters about 2010, they had allegedly made contact with this phantom using glass divination (the glass itself was said to be "going mad"). "Albert" claimed to be a man who had killed himself at the Old Hall when he discovered that his girlfriend had been made pregnant by his own father.
