The Saracen's Head

The ghost of King Charles has been seen in the suite named after him. This was also the place where he spent his last night of freedom as he was on the run after he had lost the Civil War. His depressed-looking spectre is also seen along the corridor that leads to his rooms. A happy, smiling lady ghost from the 18th century also haunts this hotel, specifically in the toilet which used to be a small bedroom. Most active is a man in Regency costume of velvet. He has been seen "shuffling" along the various corridors of the building.
Ruth Roper Wylde provides a few new snippets of information; there is said to be a ghost of a Victorian lady in the upstairs ladies toilet and child phantoms in the corridor. In 2002, a old man, aged in his mid 60s and wearing tweed, was seen in the doorway leading from the restaurant to the reception. When the employee asked if she could help, the man smiled, turned and walked away at which point the witness followed him but he was nowhere to be seen and the front doors were locked (it being early in the morning).

Update 3/8/22: I asked the hotel via Facebook if they had experienced anything paranormally untoward recently: "way to many to answer your question, not of recent as we now close at 8pm due to staffing problems. but back before covid when we were doing weddings and functions and here until the wee hours myself and several other colleagues saw many things out of the corner of your eye, and full on. some people had been pushed and hair pulled, foot steps when no one else was here but us."
