Boathouse Hotel

Apparently, activity in this hotel has increased since Claudia's (my correspondent) first encounter with this hotel as a child (the building belongs to her mum and dad). People have experienced knocks on doors, the smell of tobacco smoke, and see things out of the corner of their eye; sometimes apparitions have been seen in full sight, with several different apparitions reported by staff throughout the years. The reception and bar bells ring and there's nobody there, and this even happens when the hotel is locked up. Objects will move on tables and shelves, and a couple of months ago, a glass turned itself from upside-down to upright in front of one of our regulars and bar staff - Claudia says, "our customer couldn't believe his eyes, we're kinda used to it now!" Also, pens, pencils and other small objects get thrown, they've had files swept from shelving onto the floor, and sometimes small denomindation coins appear from nowhere. People with long hair have had their hair tugged, particularly one housekeeper, whose hair was extremely long and who experienced this regularly. This same person was also cleaning in one room and turned around to find all the drawers suddenly open. Another member of staff has been scratched in one bedroom which is part of the original farmhouse and other staff have said that they don't like this room. Meanwhile, in the room next door (also part of the original farmhouse) the TV turns itself on and off by itself and people have also reported their phones suddenly coming on and playing YouTube videos or their digital phone games popping on. In this same room, they once had a very irate lady staying and one morning she said that she hadn't slept because there were children running up and down the corridors all night, but the only child in the building was her grand-daughter, who was sleeping in the bed next to her. Staff checked the CCTV and there was nothing, apart from the motion-sensor lights going on and off by themselves all night. The sound of running in the corridors happens occasionally; much more regularly are the sound of foosteps. With regard to other rooms, Claudia says, "One person refused to stay in one room, as he said it smelled of death, though nobody else could smell anything. Some staff don't like this room either. Same room, you can make the bed, walk out and walk in a minute later and there's a dent as though someone has sat on it. This also happens in another room, which my dad was staying in for a while, and he's thought on a couple of occasions that someone has been in his room, but nobody had been. Room 22 is the heebie-jeebie room for me, that part of the hotel has had a funny feel since I was a child and before it was converted into a bedroom, it was part of the 225 people dining room, and the hand dryers would go off by themselves, even when switched off at the plug and they were always icy-cold. It's horrid. And the adjoining wall is the back of the kitchen/utility part ... The energy is so strange, and heavy, and can make you feel dizzy etc. if you're sensitive to this type of thing. It's very likely to catch something out the corner of your eye here, and it feels like it's watching everything. Most apparitions have been seen in the kitchen, utility area, and corridor leading to the kitchen. The utility room is at the external back of the hotel, and it's always been strange there too, though I think that's overspill from what's inside. It feels stronger inside than out." I inquired about the sighting of apparitions and was told, "in the hotel we've had several sightings of a man in a cloak and hat walking through the kitchen, who my mum is convinced is an old ship's captain. A white apparition in the corridor to the kitchen, and various black shadowy figures in the kitchen, bar, and downstairs corridors." One day, a staff member saw a figure pass the doorway whilst he was in the kitchen - but nobody was there. When the CCTV was checked there was a small, indistinct movement in the corner of the screen - and a cloth abruptly vanished from the shelves.
