Thorpe Hall

The ghost here is dubbed "The Green Lady"; she is thought to be Donna Leonora Oviedo who took a fancy to former resident Sir John Bolle when he was imprisoned in Spain and brought him food, and eventually secured his escape by bribery. He then confessed that he was married but he took a painting of her in a green dress back home. The story continues that Donna made it to England and killed herself in the gardens of his home to show how much she loved him - and Sir John, overcome with grief, ordered that a place be set at dinner for her, a tradition that continues into the 1920s. The Green Lady has been seen in the gardens and the road next to the hall.
