George Nelson Memorial Stone

Dr Kate Cherrell notes that this is a memorial stone to George Nelson of Cadeby Hall, who died aged 16 in 1885 when he fell from his horse. Kate says that, "Drivers claim to see a horse and rider race out in front of them before the horse rears up throwing the rider to the ground." When the driver pulls over neither the horse nor rider are to be seen. The stone was once set well back into the adjoining field but it was moved c. 1960s whereupon it seems that the ghosts were spurred into activity.
